Harry Brook and Joe Root scored centuries for Yorkshire before an injured Wayne Madsen led a Derbyshire fightback on day two of the County Championship match at Headingley.

England duo Brook and Root shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 201, underpinning their county鈥檚 first-innings 450-5 declared, with Brook top-scoring on 126 not out.

Yorkshire started the day on 276-3, with Root on 65 and Brook 44. Root made 119 and the hosts declared shortly after lunch.

But veteran Madsen compiled an excellent unbeaten 88, sharing 167 for the fourth wicket with Brooke Guest, who added 74 to Derbyshire鈥檚 close-of-play 190-3.

Root looked comfortable before lunch and reverse-ramped seamer Zak Chappell for six after reaching his century.

Brook reached his latest ton off 102 balls and then pulled Luis Reece鈥檚 left-arm seam for six over backward square-leg.

Yorkshire declared 15 minutes after lunch with a fifth batting point secured.

Brook was later shelled at mid-on by captain David Lloyd off Reece on 106.

Madsen left the field nursing his right hand and went to hospital for treatment, but he came in at his usual number-four position with the score at 15-2 in the sixth over.

Fringe England quick Matthew Fisher struck twice in a six-over opening spell which cost only seven runs. He trapped Harry Came lbw and had Lloyd caught by Fin Bean.

Ben Coad removed Reece 鈥 23-3 in the 13th over 鈥 and the rebuild job was down to Madsen and wicketkeeper Guest.

Madsen showed no obvious sign of discomfort as he lofted Hill鈥檚 seam over long-on for six.

Guest was handed a life on 35 when dropped off Fisher by his fellow keeper Jonny Tattersall down the leg-side after tea.

Yorkshire鈥檚 declaration in the afternoon came with some poor weather forecast for day three.

Guest reached his fifty first and Madsen followed. By the time the latter raised his bat, Derbyshire were 132-3 in the 43rd over.
