Former Western Storm boss Trevor Griffin has been named as the new head coach of Somerset Women's inaugural side.

Griffin had two spells as head coach of Western Storm, initially from 2017 to 2019 during which time the team twice won the Kia Super League.

He returned to the club in 2022 having also coached at Sunrisers and BBL side Sydney Thunder, as well as working with London Spirit in The Hundred.

Griffin has signed a two-year deal in Taunton and said it was "a huge honour" to lead the team next season.

鈥淲omen鈥檚 cricket is going from strength to strength, and we鈥檝e seen tremendous growth in the south west in recent years," Griffin said.

"To be able to build on this as we move forward with Somerset is incredibly motivating for staff and players alike."

Sophie Luff, formerly Western Storm captain, was named as the first player to sign a professional contract with the club for 2025 last month.

Somerset are one of eight counties given Tier 1 status as part of major reforms to the women's game next season.
