Jersey's Thomas Greechan came from behind to win the final in Hong Kong

Jersey's Thomas Greechan has said winning his first world bowls title left him "emotional and overjoyed".

He clinched the Champion of Champions in Hong Kong by beating Scotland's Jonathan Ross 5-0 in a tie-break set in the final.

"I can't believe it," Greechan said. "I don't know if it's really sunk in yet, I don't think I was aiming that high."

Greechan came back from losing the first set 9-7 before taking the second 8-5 and then winning the tie-break.

The win came just two days after Jersey Ladies' Katie Nixon and Joan Renouf won gold in the European Team Bowls Championships in Portugal.

Greechan said: "Bowls has really taken off in the last couple of years and we've finally got some more younger players coming through.

"That's really helped develop the game over here.

"We've taken it on to European and world level, we're really doing well now and we're holding our own."
