Richard Gerrard won the Isle of Man End-to-End Walk by more than 12 minutes in wet and windy conditions on Sunday.

The 39-year-old completed the 39.2 mile course between the Point of Ayre and the Sound in six hours, 48 minutes and 54 seconds.

"I'm absolutely delighted to win, I managed to get a good gap on the coast road and kept it going," he said.

Richard Spenceley finished second with the 2009 champion Michael George a further 15 minutes back in third place.

Gerrard, who finished third last year, added: "My target was to get under seven hours, with so many strong walkers in the field I didn't expect to win."

Meanwhile, Sally Walker was the leading lady home, finishing more than ten minutes inside Judith Quane's winning time from 2010.

Walker completed the course in seven hours, 29 minutes and 24 minutes, to claim sixth overall.

The event is held on long stretches of paved roads passing through Bride, Jurby and Peel before climbing up to Cregneash in the south of the island and ending at the Sound.
