A relative of a family which gifted the stately home to the National Trust has hit out at the charity for scaling back restoration plans. Clandon Park was destroyed by fire in 2015. The National Trust said: "We do not believe that a restoration is the right thing to do at Clandon, because we would lose the layers of the building and the history which we have discovered since the fire, and which are unique."
