Interview: Acker Bilk

Jazz legend Acker Bilk is no stranger to the Somerset shore - in fact, he was born right here in the county, in Pensford. Listen to an interview with the man himself.

Acker spoke to 成人快手 Somerset Sound's Jo Phillips in July 2006. You can listen to the full interview, by clicking on this audio link:

Hear Acker talk about his life and career, as well as his hobby as a painter, and his music.

"The good thing about听jazz is that although you may play the same number a few times, you perform it differently at every gig," he said.

"I look at my clarinet sometimes and I think, I wonder what's going to come out of there tonight? You never know."

As Acker is actually a Somerset term which means friend or mate, Jo quizzed him on how well he knows his friends.

Find out how Acker fared in the competition, and also hear him talking about his future.

"I'm still blowing alright, and I still enjoy it which is the main thing.

"Unless there's a mental or physical problem, I'm going to carry on as long as I can."

Acker Bilk played at the Glastonbury Abbey Musical Extravaganza 2006 on Sunday 6 August, with his Paramount Jazz Band. Click on the link on the right to read a review.
