Help playing audio/video Weston-super-Mare Carnival is the last of the Somerset autumn carnival season. It is part of the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival Association circuit. Normal carnival route
Carnival route during severe storms
Around 140 entries will slowly make their way through the town centre entertaining the crowds, including huge illuminated floats, walkers in fancy dress and marching bands. The procession will leave Locking Road car park at 7.15pm and head along Alexandra Parade, Alfred Street, the Boulevard, Waterloo Street, South Parade, the seafront and Carlton Street before returning to the car park about three hours later. The carnival "rest area" is between West Street and Knightstone Road, so this is not the best place for spectators. Covered grandstand seating is provided on the seafront opposite the Tourist Information Centre to give spectators the best possible view. A limited number of seats are still available at 拢9 and 拢8 and can be booked by calling 0116 2692117. Carnival programmes are available in advance from the Tourist Information Centre and on the route on the night. Spectators are advised to arrive early and avoid using the car if possible. Roads within the carnival route will be closed from 6pm. Town centre car parks will not be available after 6pm and will not re-open again until after the procession has finished at around 10.30pm, so parking spaces will be limited. Locking Road car park is the assembly point for floats and will be closed on Sunday 12 November for three days. In the unlikely event of severe storms, the route will be diverted from Alexandra Parade along Locking Road, over Drove Road bridge, along Winterstoke Road and back down Marchfields Way before crossing Hildesheim Bridge. Carnival organiser Brian Coombs urged residents to dig deep into their pockets to support the carnival and local charities. "Every year the cost of staging the event rises, so please give generously to the collectors to ensure it continues in the future," he said.
