But Alice isn't thick. She has dyslexia. She's desperate to create a good future for herself but feels annoyed about the lack of help.
I'm Alice. I have dyslexia and struggle with it. I was six or seven when I first started to notice I wasn't the same as other people in my class. I find it difficult to read and write. Sometimes, I look at words and it's like it's a different language. People call me thick and that used to upset me, but now I just admit it and say "yeah, I know I am". I don't feel ashamed of saying what is wrong with me, but I do worry about my future. I want to be a designer or a photographer when I'm older. I hope that I'll make it. NBAlice spent time with Kim Bell, our Hadley Learning Community journalist, working on the text for this feature. Kim enjoyed the cooperative approach: "it was really good to work with Alice on this article. She's got fantastic ideas and it was great to work with her." last updated: 25/04/2008 at 09:32 You are in: Shropshire > Community > Hadley Learning Community > Coping with dyslexia |
