Nil Venditti conducts Ravel, Musgrave and Say
Italian-Turkish conductor Nil Venditti returns to the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Symphony Orchestra for a programme of farewells.
Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin pays homage to the stylings of bygone French keyboard music – each movement taking the form of a traditional Baroque dance, and dedicated to friends of the composer who had died fighting in World War I.
Meanwhile, two world premieres offer their own goodbyes: Thea Musgrave’s In Memoriam pays tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II and features violinist Johan Dalene and oboist Nicholas Daniel, whilst Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Adieu is a parting gift to former ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Director Paul Hughes, once again featuring Nicholas Daniel, this time on the cor anglais.
Bridging the gap between these two gestures, another riveting feature from Ravel – the virtuosic rhapsody, Tzigane, for which Johan Dalene once again takes up the violin.
