In 2007, award-winning Canadian banjo player Jayme Stone spent two months in Mali exploring his instrument's African roots, a trip that inspired the richly rewarding album Africa to Appalachia, a collaboration with griot singer and kora player Mansa Sissoko. Julie Fowlis recently hailed the album as "a triumph" in The Observer when she chose it as one of her best albums of 2008 and it was recently selected by fRoots as one of the ten best new albums of the month.
