The Palm Tree, But Much Bigger!

Our palm tree has grown in the last couple of days. It can reach over a small building. It has grown about a foot and a half. In length it is 1m 25 cm and in height it is 1m and 25 cm. We鈥檝e only had it for two weeks. It鈥檚 grown so much I鈥檓 amazed by it. Our tree is starting to sprout leaves on every branch. Our palm tree has only been in water no chemicals at all.

Your palm tree will soon be undermining your foundations... Just FYI, I had a horse chestnut seedling that I grew in a pot for 4-5 years. Eventually it became a mini tree, but far too big to plant in a normal garden cos they grow enormous. I took it to a nature centre type place where they were going to plant it in their woods.

Wow, Fetlar School, what an amazing tree. You must have very green fingers to grow a tree that size !! Well done, please share your secret, I would love to grow something so splendid as your tree.

It must be the Fetlar water - or air - or both! Or all your TLC! congrats, O children of Fetlar! By the way, be careful of all genetically modified plants - ask your teacher to read you "The Day of the triffids" and you won't sleep a wink for weeks, especially with said super-sprouting tree in your classroom.

Ssht barney don't metion the word triffids--even now almost 40 years of reading the book --living in the south of france sends shivers down my spine in the months of july/august when the fields are filled with huge sunflowers--i compare them to "trifids"-i know its daft but thats the way it is!

Amazing rate of growth, Fetlar. I hope cook does not lay his/her hands on whatever you used to give a boost to the "palm": otherwise the Fetlar students might end up being known as The Giants of the Islands!!

Carol, I first encountered John Wyndham's work listening by chance to a radio adaptation of "The Kraken awakes". I came in just as the krakens started to throw out their "whips" and capature people .. it was very realistic and horrified a ten-year old who didn't know that this was a play. JW - a good but almost forgotton SF writer. His scenarios were always so possible. That's what made them scarey! Don't look behind you just now Carol, but I think, in that dark cornerr.. isn't it .... a ... aaaargh!

thanks for your advice,barney-just now they are still small-hardly out of the ground whilst walking the dog i shall to trample as many as i can before they have time to grow(just kidding folks i respect what grows in the fields)
