`Sno(w) Joke...

Here are some pics of the smooring of snow we had and still have on Sanday. :-)
Not enough to go sledging, but still bonny enough to look at and enjoy.
Sorry that some of them were taken through what looks like grimy windows..I DO wash them, but the wind blows so much garden soil and sand and grit into them (and how DO birds manage to poop on a vertical surface btw?) that they look quickly, grimy.
Over the weekend I potted up herbs and tomato plants, all of which will be grown indoors. They sit, now, in peedie pots on the windowledges, peeping out at the bleak, icy landscape, brave above the soil.
The rhubarb is also starting to green and poke its head above ground, despite the chancy weather, so soon enough there`ll be another batch of rhubarb wine, to go with the maturing bottles of last years mead.
Got visitors coming again this year, you see, and the `laws` of hospitality ensure they are well fed and watered even if that means making sure they`re too tiddly to notice they`re eating goat meat when they swore they`d never touch the stuff cos you forgot which casserole in the freezer it was in....*note to self, label things better*....

Note to Dag, if he reads the blogs still, please could you resend your email addy so I can say thank you to you and your lovely wife? Thanks. :-)

What a gorgeous flummoxerie of ducks'n'hens Hermit. (btw Soaplady needs a virtual hug) and I like the serenading goose. Practising for the Festival Chorus no doubt...

It looks lovely! We had about 2 flakes!

I am so glad to see Sanday in bad weather! I have visited a few times now but only in June with superb weather. I do know that it's not like that all the time but it is good to be reassured.

Margaret Lyall from Cupar

Cupar is a very nice place, too (from what I could judge the one time I drove through). Good sense of humor, Margaret Lyall. # You see, Hermit, you have scotched envy right in the bud. Nothing like misfortune to make people like you, and your island. No, no, it does not mean that you have to go and electrocute yourself again, or get struck by lightning. I like you as is, seven veils and all. Of course, I can already hear Barney from Swithiod mutter: "D**n the seven veils. Where is the need?!!"

mjc from NM,USA

Glad you got your bit snow, HL. I've read all your blogs and I remember that a while ago you were really sorry for the lack of it. I miss it as well. I have tried several times to grow tomatoes indoors.... nae luck. I get some wee shoots that just get hellish leggy hellish quick and then flop over. "Such a disappointment for a girl!"

Hope Later from manky slushville

You were lucky to find 'superb weather' in June! Changeable is the kindest description...My admiring comment about 'andsome ducks and serenading geese from Tuesday fell into the boiling oil trap of the Spam Fritter!

Mjc you writ the words right off my keyboard. But in the wrong blog...

Barney from Swithiod in seventh heaven

to margaret from cupar; does "Stratheden"hospital still exist?? I done part of my nurses training there in 1974

carol from over here

For goodness sake Carol, never ever admit to remembering the seventies...or is it the sixties...I can never remember... HL, what does your very successful hedge consist of?

Flying Cat from soothin a fevered broo

After you were there, Carol, Stratheden hospital was never the same...

mjc from NM,USA

WOW great shots, missus! love the window one, with the sunlight, absolutely excellent. Bright clear sunny (ish) day here in Dublin but cold...still, no snow this year!

GerCelt from Dublin, Ireland

nothing or no-one is ever the same after meeting me MJC, ok?

carol from sunny morning-grey afternoon

As i said in an earlier comment which didn't appear,mjc,no-one or no-where is ever the same after meeting me!!

carol from by the fireside

FC, the hedge is a Rosa Rugosa thingmybob. Grows like greased lightning and even take the cauld, gales and lashing sideways rain. :-) Plus in what passes for autumn, lots of hips.

Hermit from Sanday

Thanks Hermit. Once you've got one rugosa, you'll never be without 'em! Little Suckers! Its a star in Rolling Acres. Lots of hips - obviously not a problem for one bellydancer... BTW I believe Carol implicitly!

Flying Cat from patting a plump rump

yes fc,thats why so many people here suffer from bad nightmares!

carol from under grey skies

mjc from NM USA, that was totally uncalled for. What has Carol ever done to you, for you to be so utterly cruel and heartless about her. You're being footloose and fancy free with poor Carols feelings ( the Weathered French version, and not the Spam loving IBHQ variety) Sometimes I just wonder where you people get off with playing with peoples feelings. Oh and FC does that plump rump that you are patting belong to a certain fpu? So mjc, think about peoples feelings, before making comments, then after thinking, go ahead and make them anyway. You are only saying what everyone else is thinking after all, aren't you?

Tws from The Fixing Ring

sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never harm me!
