This time I understood every word. But it is interesting to know how the Orcadian dialect is influenced from the Norse language. Computers are very ok when they work.

Oh Hermit, how dreadful. Reading your blog made my blood run cold! I hope you get everything fixed OK. Like you, I am totally dependent on my computer for my livelihood (but luckily not for banking purposes) and am paranoid about it. To counter this, I pay vast sums of money each month to a local company on a maintenance contract, which gives me peace of mind (and is worth every penny). I don't know what bloodeagling is, but it sounds like a suitable punishment to me! Good luck

AVG anti spy and anti virus software is quite good, even the basic free version. I use it, and I understand most students at daughter's uni. use it also. No problem since I used it about a year or so. I update and clean up the spyware cookies every few days.

Somebody got into my bank details, and they tried to steal my identity, but I've nothing to steal, so they left me 拢20 in my bank account, which wasn't there before.

sorry to hear your computor got hacked-i don't know what i would do if it happens to me and man with magic fingertips doesn't know much more than me so he wouldn't be much use. thankfully i rarely buy things through the net

HL has your son thought about running your accounts on disketts or on an independant HD. that can be unpluged, I do, and that is my first FIREWALL.ask him to think about it. regards roy.

HL an update just before i was about to close the Noton Antiviruse whent into overdraive(Auto) It found no problems, but this is the first time that the programe has actuated.

There is a simple answer to your problems. Get rid of your Microsoft operating system and switch to Unix - Linux - BSD - Solaris or Mac operating system. No virus or spyware problems and apart from Mac it is all free. If you do not fancy that, just try Firefox or SeaMonkey browser and use cookie controls etc.

Oh my goodness! I was just about to verify my PayPal account with my bank account info (as per PayPal's demands...) but now maybe I wont do that!!!

Hi Roy, good idea and I`ve mentioned it to the son and he`s working on it for me...gave me quite a start to think all my work details might be threatened! Hiya Corsequoy, ages ago now we tried to install Linux but it didn`t work out, I think I`d bought a really old version (from Ebay!) so maybe that was it. Have to admit, not too enamoured of Microsoft at the mo.... Hi Michelle, have to say, I`ve found no real probs with PayPal and think it was just one of those things my account got hacked the last time, other than that it seems to be a convenient way to do businnes online. :)

p.s. scallowawife, I found out doing a virus check, lol. It flagged up the three trojans, and me son had to fix it for me (I do that, point him at the non functional techy thing saying "please fix it" and he normally does) I use AVG to check for viruses.

Regarding your previous Linux trial, you do not have to install GNU Linux, you can run many Linux distros from a live CD, and save, (if you wish) your setup/details in various locations. (ie. back to the same writable CD, USB stick, squash file on hard drive, or virtually any other storage media.) For a first trial I would recommend Puppy Linux. Just download the iso, burn it to CD, and boot from that CD. What you get is a basic operating system that is easy to alter or add to.

p.s. Jill, bloodeagling is where the vikings (though, supposedly originally the Franks really) tied their captives to a pole, and whilst keeping them alive, broke open and spread apart the ribcage like an eagles wings, then (also trying to keep them alive) took out the lungs and spread them out too. I keep saying, I`m not a pacifist, lol....

this blog is turnin into a complete gibberish gobbledegook - am I a luddite or a trojan? I just booked tickets for our hoilday in Aberdeen and Glasgow - and managed to one: forget about air discount scheme, (so spent a frustrating half hour trying to cancel and re book,but managed it) two: use a switch card with no money in it, (so slowing up the entire process) and three: my computer refuses to recognise that it is connected to the internet, unless coaxed. grr.Can anyone explain why I have to un plug my computer from the internet to speak (its so noisy on the line if its conected) and why my computer has dififcuty reconnecting? we are on BT broadband.
