It`s a Wee Bit Windy!

We did hae a caravan, securely tied doon, until Saturday nights storm force winds. Me other half had tae gaun oot and smash a window to get oot the dog and cat who overnight in the van (not being housetrained..we got them both that way!) who were both, luckily, ok if a peedie bit scared. We hae a fair bit o` storm damage but are managing fine...when the Hydro went off overnight and a` morning, we used oor wee generator tae power the freezers and me incubator...I dinnae ken how long the thing was withoot heat so am keeping me fingers crossed for the eggs...
Yours truly was awake frae 2am wi` the soond o` the howling wind, which was awfu fierce and stronger than I hae heard for a long time. So I`m a bitty tired and just posting what happened tae oor caravan. It is still there (this is Sunday night I am typing this) and me other half will no` be able to see tae it until tomorrow when wi` ony luck the wind will ease off...although, according to the weather, it`s no likely tae dae that.
onyway, I`m hoping that everyone else in the North and Western Isles is faring fine wi` the storm and hunkering doon til it passes ower.

maybe a new name for a blog "flying caravan!"

I can empathise, my VW van ended up on its side last year in the storms. Managed to repair it, eventually. Liked your pictures, is it a 4 X 4 or a boat you use to get around the croft? How are you eggs?

Lerwick Trevor from Lerwick

Ah Ha! You have my sympathy having lost a fair few shed, vehicles, roofs, fences, buildings, etc in my time.

Good to know you are safe and sound. Hopefully Barebraes and her hulk (the bipedal one) are fine also (ibid. roof). # Pray tell, Hermit, what does "hydro" refer to? Interesting that you would have a back up generator: is it the rule/tradition in the islands to have one, or are you also one of those who would never be caught with spare oil for your lamps?

mjc from NM,USA

We too had a power cut (hydro) and had to use the generator, Mr B was also worried as he has some duck eggs in an incubator ( the hulk has a tender side) he he. Apart from that the roof is still intact hurray !!

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Hermit: Quite obviously, meant to write "withOUT spare oil ..." .

Trevor, thanks for asking, the eggs seem tae be fine but I`ll no` ken until they hatch, I`m no sure how long they were withoot heat. mjc, the Hydro is the Scottish Hydroelectric board, which gies us oor power. The generator is only a wee one, but enough tae power the freezers etc. We also keep paraffin lamps and plenty candles. If worse comes tae worse, we hae fuel and heat tae cook and be warm, and light tae see by, so we`re a` fine here. Too mony times withoot power tae tak it for granted.

Hermit from Sanday

Good to hear you all survived the big storm.

Arnish Lighthouse from Stornoway

Barebraes: Let's hope those duck eggs did not get too cold. How about last year's second batch of quackers: are they alive and well? ARE THEY?! What else does Mr. B. have in that incubator?
