A kestrel was spied under Bird-feeding Station a few years ago here in Rolling Acres, with it's wing in a strange position: fpu thought it was broken, until reading in the bird book that it was in fact covering it's sparrowlunch from prying eyes As if a sensible cat would approach a bird of prey with a polite "Could you spare a wing for a hungry feline, me old mucker?" A beautiful hunter - rather like myself - but not to be messed with!

Good that the kestrel was not injured. Beautiful to watch but rather small. # Just heard that a bald eagle nest was noted in southern Indiana three miles upriver from where I plan to plonk a sign which says: "No Trespassing. Hunters shot on sight!" (ibid. for wild turkeys, deer or possum rooting in my garden). Lawyers are still at it re: purchase of a bit of Hoosier country, but the (succesful) end is (relatively) near. Tractor, bush hog and front tractor bucket have been spoken for. Fun, fun in the offing. I am looking forward to reading while doing tractor work: should not be any more difficult than reading, listening to radio traffic reports and driving on the interstate all at the same time. Whoever said that men can't multi-task?!

how nice it is to be so close to nature---at least in scotland!!! i have one hellish big rat that has taken residence in my pile of wood and as spring has arrived over here,grass snakes are wakening up!! i don't mind coming across the odd addder or two whilst walking in the mountains,but over here grass snakes are harmless but its the size of the damned things that scare to hell!!

Men can multitask? I never knew that!!! I'm almost feart to ask - what is a bush hog, apart from a big scary tusky wild piggy?

A bush hog is a device with heavy duty rotating blades attached to the rear of a tractor. It crunches and spits out, making a wonderfully satisfying noise, and gets the job done. Cleans between trees (the Hoosier property has five acres of 6 year old hardwood trees, planted as a conservation measure, near the river: the area between the small trees needs to be cleared for aesthetic and forestry purposes) - to name one example.

That was just Anne being clever and down or up loading a pic frae somewhaar else....clever and also kind, obviously...*phew* TGMITN just keep looking oot and aboot when you're not being terrorised by um-coos...binoculars are handy.

Someone is suggesting that, unless you get tied down, you might end up in Scrabster (Crabbing cat in Scrabster?) - cf. Moo's "Where is Flying Cat". If so, as an ex-Orkneyinga Cat you won't have to worry about um coos ("them coos"? taking a wild guess/leap of faith).
