HI HO HI HO Its off to work we go

Three whole days of sunshine!!

Whooppee

Mr B and Me and a dog named Hooch took the peedie car and the trailer and loaded a mountain of scalpings into the trailer and spent a glorious afternoon filling holes along the track that leads to Barebraes.

Hooch sat in the trailer with me and an assortment of implements, rake shovel, large heavy pounding thingy that flattens the scalpings into the potholes. The trailer was a bit uncomfortable on the way down but a bit better on the way back.

Hooch spent most of the time running here and there sniffing and peeing and doing things that doggies do.

What a difference a day of sunshine makes to the output of work.

We even talked about our plans for the erection of the remaining roof.... well its a step in the right direction....isn't it !!!

Hoorah! It's good to hear of future big erections taking shape at Barebraes...I'm not quite sure about the doggie sniffing&peeing bit, especially with him being such a big dog and all...

Flying Cat from sniffing&spraying in a small way

Scalping is great fun, Barebraes. Here in Nuevo Mexico, we dry the scalps. Dry desert air and a sunny sky (to go along with natives of a sunny disposition) are a big help. What a waste to stuff them into potholes. Are they so easy to come by in Shapinsay, Barebraes? Somewhat frightening, really.

mjc from NM,USA

yp MJC: i can just picture the sight! Mr B looking angelic rounding up the locals, while hooch guards them all and then mrs b scalping them al while hooch dribbles with glee--

carol from the usual place

OTWH, please explain what scalpings actually are, this is a genuine enquiry unlike the frivolrous comments previously posted here. Really!

Barney from Swithiod with a call for order!

I for one have never ever deigned to post a frivolrous comment. Scalpings hurt my delicat paws.

Definition :Scalpings are, correctly, the off-cuts or shards created by dressing stone for building work, ie, a quarry waste (and Are Excellent To fill in Potholes ) We aim to answer every query with efficiency Barney

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Mjc now your question answered : There seems to be an abundance of Scalpings here although where they come from I have no Idea (expect the very knowledgeable FC can help there) Ours came courtesy of the OIC as part of the road scheme. As our track is over a certain distance they give it to you gratis. Or they used to not any longer avaliable due to Council cutbacks.

Barebraes from Shapinsay

I did post a comment but its gone astray again

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Although it hasn't been long since the OIC deprived the Community Councils of the very tiny amount of dosh it took to provide the roadfill, already the potholes are becoming uncomfortably noticeable in unadopted un-metalled roads. I'm so glad the road to Big Cage is not one of them!

Flying Cat from the very fount of knowledge *blush*

joking aaside, barebraes, did you not keep any of the rubble you had after converting the house? When we renovated our old house local farmers used to quee up to get the rubble to fill in the potholes on their tracks--now the local council(b****y mugs tarmac all the roads leading to the fields and who pays for it? yes we idiots who are not farmers!

carol from over here

Well Carol (all joking aside) we are building a green house (recycle type not glass one) All the rubble and old stone is being used to rebuild and fill in floors etc.. keeps down the cost a bit too . Have you recovered from your NZ jaunt yet!!

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Barebraes, yes and no!!

A very well-balanced comment...
