Winter blues

Hello fellow bloggers
Its been ages since I have sat here and had time to write a few things down that have happened on Ward Hill.
The Winter seems to have gotten hold of all at Barebraes and apart from feeling like hibernating until the warmer months the work load has dwindled down to a mere trickle. No more building walls, raising trusses or felting and tiling the roof. Instead we have been busy on other less energetic pastimes. Committees, Functions and general work. Christmas and the New Year are all in the dim and distant past and every morning we look to the skies and wish for brighter weather.
Our first year in Shapinsay didn't slow us down but now we know what people mean when they talk about the winter blues.
Rising in the morning is getting later and later.
Lethargy sets in
and all you want to do is sleep eat and keep warm.
Poor Hooch enjoys his walks but can't quite get used to the fact that they look like puddles but have a slippery surface which stops you from drinking from them.
The hens have stopped laying and are walking around looking very tatty. Its Osigar apparently, even the chickens need more sunlight.
Well at least we have a new radio station to listen to and SUPER STATION ORKNEY has given us a few laughs.
The only consolation there is to Winter is that it makes you appreciate Summer more
Hope all you in blogland are tucked up warm in front of your fires. I know thats where I would rather be.
And as TWS would say "Cheery for now"

Thankyou for immortalising Winter Blues here ...! I thought I was the only one finding herself getting up later in the morning - I thought someone must've just hit me with the Lazy Stick ...!

Mac wonders why he goes for walks in the dark 5 days a week - but at the weekend he enjoys some strange light from the sky. He also wonders how his ball can bounce off the top of puddles at times.

Cheer up, Barebraes. Spring is around the corner. # Poultry: I have been told that if there is an electric bulb left a few hours in the chicken house does wonders.

It's the duty of all of us to get up late in winter if we can possibly get away with it. This helps stop anyone who has the sense to semi-hibernate feeling guilty about it. Shetlanders have the right idea with their fire festivals...there's a reason for having them at this time of year, to lighten the darkness...like the christmas tree and other pagan shiny winter things. 'Da Times' will be full of Up Helly Aas for weeks and a good thing too!

Have you cheered up, gotten over the winter blues yet, Barebraes? I am told lots of lighting in the house helps. How about a picture or two of Hooch?!
