Male members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are usually ordained deacon at the age of 12, at which time they receive the Aaronic Priesthood.
Deacons take a significant part in church life. Their duties include:
- Distributing the sacrament
- Collecting fast offerings
- Acting as messengers
- Community welfare work
- Church maintenance
