When considering development of a new technology, it is important to account for the wants and needs of the target audience. Two day-long workshops were performed to explore the concept of audio device orchestration—using multiple connected, synchronised devices to create or augment a media experience—with 16- to 18-year-olds. The workshops utilised a variety of ideation techniques including warm-up exercises, idea generation exercises, and co-creation of prototypes. A thematic analysis was performed on the outputs to explore the participants’ attitudes to audio technology and device orchestration. The results suggested a strong desire for positive application of technology and content, focusing on issues such as wellbeing and togetherness. The results match closely with previous research on values for digital wellbeing.
