Andrew Motion presents a gala evening of verse by Britain鈥檚 Poets Laureate, specially recorded in 2002 in celebration of the Queen鈥檚 Golden Jubilee. Ranging from the seventeenth century to his own work, the then Laureate鈥檚 selections include poems by聽Dryden, Bridges, Masefield (pictured) and Southey. The readers are Juliet Stevenson, Samantha Bond and Samuel West.
Spike Milligan聽invites聽you into聽the wonderful聽world of his comic verse.聽His readings include the strange tale of Timothy Nerp and the聽mystery of The Hidden Elephant. Learn what to do when attacked by a lion, why you鈥檝e got to have knees and what makes Spike鈥檚 fleas so special. These delightful and hilarious poems will also be popping up throughout the day on Radio 7.
John Nettles, Emma Fielding, Greg Wise and Siobhan Redmond read some of the finest poetry from Britain and Ireland.聽WH Davies's Leisure聽and Arnold鈥檚 Dover Beach are featured alongside Yeats鈥檚 The Lake Isle Of Innisfree and Not Waving But Drowning by Stevie Smith (pictured). Among many other classic poems, the programme also includes a reading of Kipling鈥檚 If 鈥� voted the Nation鈥檚 Favourite Poem in a聽1995 成人快手 poll.
