WORRICKER
All this week we are featuring a poem read by John Killick. For over a decade he's been the writer in residence in nursing homes for people living with dementia. And during this time he's been fashioning poems directly from their speech. With the permission of the individuals whose words have been used John has now published three volumes of poetry and the latest is Dementia Diary. Today he reads Romance.

KILLICK
I fell in love all on me own
And he fell with me
I didn't believe him
He wouldn't tell me his name
He says: "I'll come and I'll see you settled down."
And now he's sleeping with me
But they've found out

There's a shelf above the wardrobe where I keep his pyjamas
Oh I'm alright with him
In fact he's just my type

The other night I put his pyjamas in a drawer
I was asleep when he came in
He didn't know what to do
"Well why didn't you climb in naked?" I asked him after
Don't ask me where he works
Making bodies - car engines - you know?

First time I've slept with anybody since me husband died
He makes me happy
Not right happy but happy enough
Well you know what fellows are like though

WORRICKER
