Call for transparency on service charges听in sheltered flats
Retirement flats can be a way to keep some independence in old age. There are just over a hundred thousand of them in the UK. You buy your flat and pay a service charge to a management company. It maintains the flats and provides a certain amount of care听 depending on what you鈥檝e agreed. Recently groups of residents have been challenging their service charges, wanting to know how their money is being spent and even calling for contracts to be regulated.听 Melissa Briggs has set up a campaign group called CARLEX.
