Memory and gender 14听Feb 2006
Do men and women remember different things?

Women remember wedding anniversaries, who said what in arguments and the price of a pint of milk.听 Men remember how much an average car cost in the 1960s, driving directions and their decision, years ago, to take up an important new job.听 Or are these just gender stereotypes?听

If men and women do tend to remember different things, is this a result of differences between our brains, or is it a consequence of the different expectations society places on men and women?听 If so, does our experience of fulfilling these expectations actually affect our brains?听

Martha discusses what we remember and why with Marianne Legato, Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University and Martin Conway, Professor of Psychology and director of the Leeds Memory Group at the University听

Why Men Never Remember and Women Never Forget by Marianne Legato, published by Rodale International Ltd, ISBN: 1405093374
