Tessa Uys 30 October 2004
The South African concern pianist on her mother and a special piano

65 years ago, musician Helga Uys, fled Berlin and the rise of the Nazis, to go to South Africa. She took her Bluthner piano with her. Now, after surviving the听Nazis,听Apartheid and two very long ship journeys, the piano is back in Berlin - in the Jewish Museum.

Tomorrow evening her daughter, the South African concert pianist, Tessa Uys, will give a particularly special concert in Berlin where she'll play the same piano.

Martha talks to Tessa about her mother, the piano and why it had to leave Germany.
