Susan Chilcott's portrayal of Lisa in Tchaikovsky 's Queen of Spades opposite Placido Domingo at her debut at the Royal Opera House in 2002, received glowing reviews. This was all the more impressive as during this time she was battling with breast cancer. She died in September last year of the disease at the age of 40.听
