Louise Farrenc 5 May 2004
Farrenc was a formidable figure in the 19th century musical establishment.

She听was a composer, pianist, teacher and scholar. Her teaching was respected - and her composition was considered ambitious and original. Her three symphonies, which owe much to the work of Mendelssohn, were lavishly praised at the time, and are now gradually becoming more popular again.

Henrietta Otley spoke to the musician Diana Ambache and to Dr Laura Macy, co-editor of the Grove Dictionary of Music, about the life of Louise Farrenc.
