Asian music in Britain has seen a new surge in popularity since the success of films like Monsoon Wedding and Bend it like Beckham .
But when you move to a new country how do you nourish your cultural roots and transmit them to your children? Indrani Bhattacharya faced just that problem when she moved to Scotland twenty years ago and she decided to form a choir.
In the town of Kirkcaldy in Fife the Sangeet Mala choir , the name means 'musical garland' now meets regularly.
Last year the choir took part in the Edinburgh Mela. Now they are hard at work rehearsing for a concert later this week. Helen Ross went along to a rehearsal.
The Sangeet Mala choir's next performance is on 27th March at the St Brides Theatre in Edinburgh.
