Since the start of the Welfare State in 1948 it was thought that we would be looked after from the cradle to the grave. However for many whose retirement might stretch into 2 or even 3 decades, that provision is not adequate to live out an active retirement.
Last month women marched on Parliament protesting that 1 in 4 retired women now live in poverty.
So what have we learnt from the current situation? Is it possible to have an active retirement both for those in retirement now and those in the future?
