Mary Shelley's Frankenstein 04 December 2003
Image: Lucy Davenport as Mary Shelley in 成人快手 One's documentary, Frankenstein - Birth of a Monster
The terrifying story of Frankenstein has become a modern myth - one which each generation reinvents for itself.

Today Boris Karloff's dumb, inarticulate beast is the creature we now think of as Frankenstein's monster - but this image is far removed from Mary Shelley's original sensitive, but horrifying creation. Were the turbulent events and the rage and loneliness that Mary Shelley felt in her own life the real inspiration for her 'hideous progeny'; Frankenstein's monster?

Jenni is joined by Lord Robert Winston, presenter the 成人快手 Documentary of Frankenstein - Birth of A Monster and Lisa Hopkins, Professor of English at Sheffield Hallam University.

Frankenstein - Birth of a Monster is on 成人快手 One on Sunday 7 December
