The Forgotten Women Founders of The Royal Academy Wednesday 1 October 2003
The National Portrait Gallery has bought George Romney's portrait of Mary Moser, the celebrated 18th century artist, who with Angelica Kauffmann was one of just two women to be founder members of the Royal Academy in 1768.

It was to be 168 years before another woman was admitted as a full member.
Lucy Peltz, curator of 18th century artists at the National Portrait Gallery, and Mary Ann Stevens, Senior Curator at the Royal Academy of Arts, join Jenni to discuss the roles of Moser and Kauffmann in 18th century art, and contemporary attitudes towards them as women artists.
