There are very few Clinical Ethicists posts in British hospitals. The ethicists tend to stay behind the scenes, drawing up policy, rather than doing ward rounds.
But in the United States and Canada there's generally someone who is not necessarily qualified as a doctor, but who is trained in medical ethics. They're on call to help grapple with difficult ethical questions. So should the idea be introduced here?
