Azar Nafisi Monday 23 June 2003
Image from cover of 'Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Story of Love, Books and Revolution' by Azar Nafisi
For two years before English Professor Azar Nafisi left Tehran in 1997 she ran a clandestine reading group where seven of her best female students read and discussed frowned upon works of Western Literature.

Some of the young women came from conservative and religious families, others were from progressive and secular ones, several had even spent time in prison.
Azar Nafisi joins Jenni to tell her about years in Tehran, interwoven with the women's interpretation of the books they read from Pride and Prejudice to Lolita.
'Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Story of Love, Books and Revolution' by Azar Nafisi is published by I.B.Tauris on 26 June 2003; ISBN: 1860649815
