If the idea of getting up at the crack of dawn to go fishing doesn't appeal, then spare a thought for those who actually make the tackle.
Mandy Shelvey-Veness is a fishing fly tyer. She wraps bits of silk and feathers to the end of fishing hooks in brightly coloured patterns that will tempt the fish to bite.
This year Mandy came second in an international fly tying competition in Ireland and her clients (who include Scottish lairds and Saudi princes) will pay up to 拢75 for her speciality fishing flies.
Mandy tells Jennifer Chevalier how her speciality flies start life.
