Adoption Thursday 17 October 2002
In the immediate post-war years, many unmarried mothers came under enormous social pressure to hand over their children to church societies and adoption agencies. These women often had to wait for their children to contact them before their minds could be set at rest.

But now, thousands of women who gave up their babies over the last 60 years could be given the right to contact their children if the House of Lords votes in favour of an amendment to the Adoption and Children Bill today.
Jenni talks to "Mary" who gave up her child for adoption in 1959 and to Frances Collar from After Adoption which provides information, support, and counselling to adults and children affected by adoption.
