Baby Monitors Friday 19 April 2002
It's one of the great unknowns of pregnancy - when exactly is your baby going to be born? A generous assessment suggests that only 1 in 20 women actually give birth on their due date.

A new device being piloted in Leeds could put an end to all that uncertainty. It's designed to give mothers forty-eight hour advance warning that the new baby is about to arrive. It also has important uses in helping to predict the ten percent of babies born prematurely.
Lesley Hilton speaks to Dr Nigel Simpson from the Leeds General Infirmary, as well as expectant mothers Paula Hinsche and Judith Marshall.
