Lucy Rie Friday 15 March 2002
Lucy Rie has been described as one of the most important figures in 20th century British art and was recognised as such when she was made a Dame in 1991.

In a career which spanned almost 70 years, Lucie Rie gave ceramics a new meaning. Her unfussy style and experimental glazes became a bench mark for British potters. Her work, which included everything from buttons to vases, is now sought after worldwide. But for all her fame, Lucie Rie remained an intensely private person.
As a new centenary exhibition of her work opens at London's Galerie Besson, Emma Jane Kirby takes a look at the potter's life.
Dame Lucy Rie's work is on display at London's Galerie Besson in Bond Street from 20th March until 26th April.
