Ritalin Friday 22 February 2002
Earlier this week Elizabeth Wurtzel, author of Prozac Nation talked about her latest book which charts her addiction to Ritalin, a drug normally given to children with Attention Deficit Disorder. In Britain, it is prescribed to 14,000 children a month.

Scientists in the States say the drug continues to have an effect on the brain long after treatment and may cause changes to the chemistry of the brain similar to those produced by cocaine. However most people within the health profession say it is both a safe and highly effective treatment. So is it?
Eileen Tracy, journalist and co-ordinator for Stimulants Are Not The Answer and Dr Veira Bailey, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Maudsley Hospital in London join Martha Kearney to discuss the issues surrounding the use of Ritalin.
More, Now, Again, by Elizabeth Wurtzel, Virago Press; ISBN: 186049918X, 拢12.99
