Does it matter to you who knows what you have told your GP?
A pitched battle is raging over our medical records - and most of aren't even aware of it. For thirty years medical researchers had free access to our medical information.
Then, a year ago, the General Medical Council warned doctors that they must get our consent to pass on our details or risk breaking privacy laws. Researchers were appalled at the prospect of losing a vital source of information.
Early next year, the Health and Social Care Act will be enforced. The Act is designed to further protect our rights, but will the cost of such protection be unreasonably high?
Martha talks to medical ethicist Dr Fleur Fisher and Professor Julian Peto, Head of Epidemiology at the Institute of Cancer Research.
