The abstract painter Friday 23 November 2001
Wilhelmina Barns-Graham is currently enjoying one of the busiest years of her career, so busy, in fact, that she's beginning to resent the time it takes her away from her studio in Cornwall.

At the age of 88, the most senior member of the St Ives School, she tries to paint every day. It's a far cry from the days when she was beginning her career as an artist, not one her father was keen for her to pursue.
When Wilhelmina arrived in Cornwall over 60 years ago, she was quickly absorbed into an inner circle of avant garde young artists.
She went on to become one of the founding members of the now world-renowned Penwith Society of Artists.
Anna McNamee met the artist at a recent London exhibition of new work, to find out how she became one of Britain's most successful artists.
