Girls' choirs Friday 5 October 2001
Until 1991 the angelic voices heard in cathedrals across England and Wales would have come exclusively from the mouths of young boys.

But ten years ago, Salisbury Cathedral took a stand and established the first girls' cathedral choir, and this Sunday marks ten years since their first performance.
Cathedrals all over the country have since followed suit, and to celebrate the ten year anniversary Salisbury invited girl choristers from Exeter to Durham to come and sing together.
The result was a gathering of more than 350 girl choristers congregating on Salisbury cathedral for a weekend of concerts and services. Henrietta Otley was there as the girls prepared for this momentous singing occasion.
