Kathryn Hunter is blessed with an extraordinary voice, and her acting credits range from King Lear to Spoonface Steinberg.
If you've seen her performances, her dynamism and inventiveness will stick in the memory for ever.
She's now working off stage rather than on it, directing a show called 'Destination', by the Austrian playwright Thomas Bernhard, which begins a UK tour in Cardiff.
It explores the power of silence, guilt and oppression, through the relationship of a domineering mother and her near-silent daughter, with a cast of three - Fern Smith, Burn Gorman and Matilda Leyser.
Henrietta Otley drops in on their rehearsals at a studio in north London. The Volcano Theatre Company's production of 'Destination', directed by Kathryn Hunter, opens at the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff on Thursday 27 September. It's then on tour until Tuesday 13 November, when it ends at the Riverside Studio's in London.
