Why do women in Britain live, on average, five years longer than men?
Is there a biological reason why women outlive their male counterparts or is it simply the result of the different way men and women live their lives.
Some recent research suggests that it's because women have a stronger immune system.
But another theory says it's because grandmothers are more useful in the bringing up of the next generation.
Ruth Mace, Reader in Evolutionary Anthropology at University College, London, and Professor Tom Kirkwood, Professor of Medicine, and Head of Department of Gerontology at Newcastle University, discuss these findings.
