The National Eisteddfod is the largest and oldest celebration of Welsh culture, held every year in a different area of Wales.
The first Eisteddfod can be traced back as far as 1176 when poets and musicians from all over the country were invited to a gathering at the castle of Lord Rhys in Cardigan.
A chair at the Lord's table was awarded to the best poet and musician - a tradition that continues today.
Mererid Hopwood is the first woman to win the Eisteddfod's Bardic Chair in its 140 year history. She tells Martha about the complexity of her winning style of poetry.
