You might think a rural writers’ group based deep in the Cumbrian fells would produce a standard fare of pastoral poems and words rooted in landscape. Not so, for the Mungrisedale Writers who work from a tiny village beneath the slopes of Blencathra: they’ve just published a new collection of work called 'Dating @ 60 and other Tribulations' which tackles head-on the rush of romance for the retired generation and how far to go on that first date, even if you are in your seventies. The writers are predominantly older women, including Vi Taylor who is in her 90s and lives in a remote valley, and has to take a taxi to the group because she’s not allowed to drive any more. Caz Graham has been to meet them and hear some of their work.
