Getting local women in Sunderland back into education.
The Bridge Project in Sunderland was set up in the 80's as a two-year scheme to get local women back into education. Nearly 25 years later it's still going strong and since those early days, thousands of women have passed through the doors, racking up qualifications from forensic science degrees to powertool training. Many of the women had left school at 15 or 16, disillusioned with education - and have gone on to graduate. Last year alone, nearly 2,500 women took part in the Bridge Project - and more than half came out with qualifications.
One of the women who've been there from the start is Sheila Davidson - who was awarded an MBE in the New Yrs Honours list.听 Anne Kostalas has been to the Bridge Project centre in Sunderland to meet Sheila, and some of the other women who've helped transform the lives of local women.
