Amanda Owen: shepherdess 7ÌýFeb 2008
Amanda Owen
Life on a 2000 acre farm in North Yorkshire

Amanda Owen runs a two thousand acre farm in North Yorkshire, fifty miles from the nearest large town. She tends a thousand sheep, rebuilds stone walls and catches moles, often with her young son Miles in tow. Her life echoes that of Hannah Hauxwell who spent years, alone in the remotest parts of Yorkshire struggling to keep her family farm going. Amanda Owen may live in as harsh a terrain as Hannah - she works long hours in all weather. But in many ways her life is quite different –Ìý married to her husband Clive, she has access to email and she can tour her farm on a quad bike. Mark Holdstock went to Ravenseat to meet her.
