fencing bout
Fencing champion still sparring at 76

The sport of fencing is likely to bring to mind a dual between two men, sparring until one achieves a “palpable hit” against the other. What you wouldn’t necessarily imagine, is a 70 something woman, winning a shelf full of trophies in bouts where she’s regularly up against men and women half her age. Joy Fleetham began fencing at the age of 63 and is now president of the Bridlington Blades fencing club. She joins Jenni to explain why, aged 76, she still has fencing dreams yet to fulfil.
