A L Kennedy has made her name as a journalist, author and stand-up comedian. Earlier this year her most recent novel, Day, scooped the Costa Book of the Year Award. Set in the aftermath of the Second World War it bears obvious parallels to the contemporary situation in Iraq. It was hailed as a "masterpiece" by the Costa judges who likened it to the stylistic genius of James Joyce. In her writing there’s been a constant fascination with extreme pain and the hurt that people inflict on each other, yet she writes with a tragi-comedic air and a lightness of touch.ÌýShe joins Jane Little to talk about her life, her writing and her comedy.
