On her new drama White Girl
Abi Morgan is the writer of the multi-award winning Sex Traffic, and does not shy away from tackling difficult issues in her plays and films. Her latest drama, White Girl, is no exception. It is a tender exploration of Islam through the eyes of 11-year-old Leah, whose white family moves to an entirely Asian area of Bradford. After initially feeling hostile to the culture she finds herself in, Leah begins to find solace in Islam as a refuge from problems at home. Eventually she decides to wear the hijab – with explosive results. White Girl is part of ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two’s White season, which looks at how life has changed for the white working class in Britain.
White Girl is on Monday 9th March at 9pm on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two
