Now in her mid eighties, the artist Milein Cosman is never without a sketch book and pencil in her hand. And for more than sixty years, she’s been best known for her extraordinarily vital sketches of musicians and other cultural figures caught literally in the act of creation themselves. Her favourite subjects include the composer Stravinsky, the writer Iris Murdoch, and her late husband, musician, writer and broadcaster Hans Keller. There’s now a chance to share her impressions of many of her famous sitters at a major retrospective of her work, organised by the Jewish Museum, at the Austrian Cultural Forum in London. Judi HermanÌýmeets Milein at her North London home, where she’s still hard at work every day.
The exhibition ‘Lifelong Impressions’ is at the Austrian Cultural Forum until 26 March 2008.
